This heartwarming photo, captured by David Butenhoff, is of two-week-old Ophelia (Ophie) being nestled by her sister, Elin, age 10. “Elin has a very sweet and artistic personality, punctuated with quite the independent streak,” Butenhoff says.

For one group of local couples, Valentine’s Day isn’t just a day to celebrate the love in their individual marriages. It isn’t about cards or flowers (although those sentiments are covered; more on that later).

The vibrant arts and culture scene that we enjoy here in Woodbury is due in large part to Merrill Community Arts Center (MCAC).

 

Some teens are involved in sports, arts or community activities after school. Some go to work at a job. But there are also teens that don’t have anything on their schedule for those after-school hours. That’s why the Woodbury Y offers programs to fill those needs.

 

Kids experimenting with entrepreneurship is far from uncommon—the lemonade stand has become an American rite of passage after all. What is more uncommon is when a childhood passion carries into adulthood and makes way for a highly successful business.

 

After browsing numerous pet product websites, Pet Evolution co-owners Rian Thiele and Mike Osborne saw a need for a website that clearly showed what items people were purchasing for their furry friends.

 

This winter, the Woodbury community welcomed a Twin Cities favorite, the Duluth Trading Co. “We’re completely excited to be coming into the Woodbury area,” Maggie Chanthavong, store manager, says.

 

As the child of two musicians, Joan Molloy was exposed to music at a young age. It wasn’t long before her love of music transitioned from playing records to practicing the piano and finally the violin. She describes her relationship with the violin as a labor of love.

 

The girls are back in town, and this time they’re funnier than ever. The last time local audiences saw these five hilarious ladies, they were performing in the newly established Black Box Theater at East Ridge High School.

Daniel Oturu, current high school senior and four-star basketball player at Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul, will take his hoops talents to the University of Minnesota. “I wanted to make people in Minnesota proud,” Oturu says. “I really wanted to be a Gopher.”
